Mas del Habanero Priorat DOQ
The Mas del Habanero Priorat DOQ is a characterful Spanish red wine from the Priorat, one of Spain’s most renowned wine regions. On the steep terraces and the unique slate soils of the Priorat, a concentrated and elegant wine is created that clearly expresses the typicity of this origin. Garnacha Tinta and Cariñena form the basis for a profound red wine with a balanced structure and long ageing potential.
Producer: Hodgkinson - Peter’s Plot, Falset
The Priorat is Catalonia’s oldest wine region and today ranks among Spain’s flagship areas. The Hodgkinson family lives winegrowing with great dedication, which begins in the vines themselves, as great wines can only be made from the finest grapes. Due to the steep terraces, cultivation in this region is still genuine manual work. A great treasure of the region is the unique slate soils – known as Llicorella. The plots are planted mainly with the resilient Garnacha grape, Cariñena and the extremely rare Garnacha Peluda, a mutation of Garnacha Tinta. Because of the low rainfall and the barren soils, yields are moderate but of outstanding quality with a wonderful aromatic density, which is later reflected in the wines. Thanks to these complex and mature aromas, the red wines from the Priorat are among the most famous and best in Spain.
