Antica Raetia Selection Maienfeld Pinot Noir Graubünden AOC
The Antica Raetia Selection Maienfeld Pinot Noir Graubünden AOC from Komminoth Weine is a precise and characterful Pinot Noir from the heart of the Bündner Herrschaft. Handcrafted work, terroir and 18 months of barrique ageing come together in a red wine of depth and elegance.
Producer: Komminoth Weine, Maienfeld
Ever since the Komminoth family vinified their first own wine in Maienfeld in 1980, their passion for wines from the Bündner Herrschaft has remained unwavering. Year after year, the quality of the wines has been refined with great dedication and passion. Today, Komminoth is considered one of the leading estates in the Bündner Herrschaft. Around 4.6 hectares of vineyards are currently cultivated. Paul Komminoth describes his wines and viticultural philosophy as follows: “From the very beginning, I sought my own style. I vinify my vineyard parcels separately and aim to create concentrated, robust wines that are also capable of ageing. Every vintage has its own face, and from each one I want to bring out the very best through manual work, respect for nature, a close relationship with the vines and the preservation of healthy soils.”
The Bündner Herrschaft – with its Föhn winds, mineral soils and location along the Alpine Rhine – is regarded as one of Switzerland’s most renowned red wine regions. Komminoth uses this terroir with consistency and dedication to craft Pinot Noir wines of regional typicity and stylistic clarity.

FAQ
What stylistically defines the Antica Raetia Selection?
This Pinot Noir combines power and finesse: a deep ruby red colour, complex aromas of dark berries, roses and cedarwood, along with a long, harmonious finish – typical of the Bündner Herrschaft and marked by the unmistakable signature of Komminoth Weine.
How is the Antica Raetia Selection vinified?
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 18 months in new French oak barriques. This careful vinification gives the wine structure, depth and aromatic complexity.
What role does the grape variety play in this wine?
The Antica Raetia Selection is a single-varietal Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir). In the Bündner Herrschaft, the grape expresses its typical strengths: velvety tannins, vibrant fruit and varietal elegance, enhanced and structured through barrique ageing.
At what temperature should the wine be served?
Serve at 16-18°C so that the fruit, spice and subtle barrique influence can unfold in a balanced way.
When does the Antica Raetia Selection Maienfeld 2018 reach its optimal drinking maturity?
The 2018 vintage is currently in an excellent drinking phase, with harmoniously integrated oak influence, ripe fruit and balanced structure. Within its ageing potential, the wine will continue to gain additional finesse and aromatic depth.
What dishes pair best with the Antica Raetia Selection?
It pairs beautifully with saddle of lamb fillet, Boeuf Stroganoff, game dishes and flavourful hard cheeses. It is also an excellent choice with braised meats and hearty pasta dishes.
What makes the Bündner Herrschaft special as a wine region?
The Bündner Herrschaft – with villages such as Maienfeld, Malans, Jenins and Fläsch – benefits from warm Föhn winds, protective mountains and mineral-rich soils. This combination allows Pinot Noir to develop exceptional ripeness, fruit expression and complexity.
What role does barrique ageing play in this wine?
New French oak barriques give the wine structure and depth over the course of 18 months. The oak influence remains subtle – an elegant cedarwood nuance complements the fruit bouquet without overpowering it.
